7 On Page SEO Tips to Optimize Your Pages and Blog Posts

One of the most important parts of SEO is knowing how to choose the right keywords. Once you’ve researched and selected your keywords, it’s time to learn how to optimize your website pages for them and that’s where the real fun begins.

We want to clarify one point here – there is a LOT of content for SEO. It’s not something you can read a post and then be able to fully implement. This is a guide on how to optimize a page or post for a specific keyword, not a guide on how to fully optimize your site.

Finding your keyword is the first step, but once you know what keyword you want to use, how do you optimize your page for it?

Basics of On Page SEO

URL/Permanent Link

Unless you’re optimizing your homepage, your specific page will have a permalink, which means whatever comes after the .com.br/ at the end of your URL. For example, this post has a URL of can you guess what the focus keyword is for this page? It’s how we optimize website pages.

Your permalink plays an important role in the SEO of the page, so make sure you don’t neglect it or let it lead to the default URL. You can specify the permalink for all your posts and pages.

Page or post title

Make sure your page or post title is using the keyword. It doesn’t have to be exact, as in the case of this post, but it should at the very least have that keyword phrase in the title. Make sure your title accurately reflects what the page is about.


You need to have quality content on any page of your site to maintain proper relevance to search engines.

If you have a page that is perfectly optimized for On Page SEO, but has only a few phrases of content, you probably won’t rank for that keyword or phrase unless you have little competition.

With millions of  institutional sites  online right now, there’s not much of a chance that you’re without competition. Write good content, content that people want to read.

When writing your content, be sure to use your keyword in the content, particularly within the first paragraph. Try using it in the first sentence. Then use it a few times, when appropriate, throughout the text.

Don’t get stuck in snippets of content where there’s no place for it, but if you can replace some pronouns or other words with your keyword, that’s a good place to start.

If you write content that people want to read, then it will naturally be shared.

Title and description meta tag

This is what is shown to people on  SERPs  (search results pages). If you don’t specify your title and description meta tag, then by default Google will show the page title as the title tag and the first 120-158 characters of your content as the description (or some other piece of content on the page ).

This may or may not be the ideal text you want your users to see. If they don’t like what they see in the SERPs, then they’ll click on someone else’s listing. So take a few minutes and write something that 1) accurately describes your page 2) entices the user to click on it, and 3) uses your keyword (both in the title and description.)

One thing to keep in mind is that if  Google  doesn’t like your meta data, it still might not show it. So try to write something that is accurate and useful, as well as interesting for that user to click on your listing. The more clicks you have on the listing, the better search engines will start to think your page is relevant and your ranking will start to increase once you rank well on Google.

Header Tags

Your H1, H2 and H3 are still very important. Your page needs a minimum of an H1 tag with your keyword on it, but you can use it on H2s and H3s as well for added benefits. But remember to use where it fits, don’t just add there for SEO. Content should be for people, not search engines.


Your post or page will need at least one image. Maybe you didn’t know this, but you can optimize this image for SEO too.

If your keyword is  cardboard box , then your image should be named cardboard-box.jpg. This is such an easy thing to do that will help with your SEO, but many people don’t think about doing this before they upload the image.

(Also, before uploading, please crop and reduce the size of your photo. Whether it’s from a camera, your phone, or a photo bank, it’s probably too big and will slow down your page load time. You just need it at 72dpi and usually no more than 1600 pixels wide.)

ALT Text

When you upload a photo, you also need to specify the alt attribute of that image. This is important for a few reasons. First, it’s something that search engines pick up on him, so he needs to use your keyword.

But it’s also there so screen readers for the visually impaired can describe the photo to users who need it. So yes, use your keyword, but make sure the alt attribute accurately describes the photo as well.

As we stated at the beginning, this is not a comprehensive list of everything SEO involves. It takes a lot of work to get your website in front of the right visitors, but this list will help you optimize your posts and pages for the keywords you want to be found.

BONUS TIP : After you finish optimizing your post or page, go back through your site and look for opportunities to internally link to the new content you just added. Internal links are a great way to boost your post or page.

Make sure that when you add your link, you’re not just linking words like “click here”. Click here and it conveys no relevance to search engines and NOTHING about what that link is.

Instead, use your keyword as the anchor text for your link! This is VERY GOOD for  website optimization
